DVD Workshops

Currently I am unable to offer live online classes like I have in the past, so instead I’ve decided to create downloadable self paced e-courses and workshop DVDs for purchase. I’ll share with you my process of painting what I call a contemporary expressionist portrait. We’ll explore using color to create dimension and convey emotion. Starting with an existing background and drawing, I’ll share with you what paints I use, where I use them, and why. We’ll also explore ways to finish your portrait and how to make it cohesive with your existing background. Creating backgrounds and drawing portraits will not be covered in this video workshop.

Things we’ll cover in the workshop:

    + Adding layers to create depth & dimension

    + Facial features - eyes & lips & hair

Suggested supplies:

    + Fluid and/or soft bodied acrylic paints

    + Various paintbrushes

    + Soft graphite pencil, charcoal pencil, and/or ink
    + Substrate to paint on: watercolor paper, stretched canvas, panel, wood, or journal that accepts watermedia

We'll be working with acrylic paint, stamps, found objects/imagery, and paper in an intuitive manner to create unique paintings with lots of luscious visual texture and depth.
